Current project

Here's what I'm working on right now, it's getting close to finished.  Geometry is from a CG lighting challenge, shaders in Mudbox, and lighting (along with geo and shader fixes) in Houdini.  At this stage critique would be extremely helpful, so blast away.

CG Hat

This is another project from the shader programming class.  We had to put an object in a photograph and make it so no one could tell it was CG.  Unfortunately I can't find all of the in-between steps so you'll have to trust me that it looked pretty laughable in the beginning.  Getting a polygonal model to look like cloth by hand wasn't easy.  The hat was mostly modeled in Mudbox using a crazy process which took quite a while.  Shading and lighting were in Houdini.

Estefan

I guess it's time to post what I did on Estefan.  It's about the world's best barber who has to deal with a bald customer.

I did lighting and compositing for these two shots and two others.  I also helped work on two additional shots for a total of six.

Finished Berry

Skip a couple days of staring at the computer and one night of babysitting renders and we have a finished berry.

And here's the mess of nodes I made to get the texture.

Tweaking

Continued tweaking of the light model and displacement maps
At this point I moved to a low quality model with vector displacement.  Houdini 12 hates vector displacement, I only got it working with help from Ethan.  It messed with my regular displacement maps, so those need more work.

Demo Reel

Here's my demo reel for now.  It doesn't have any Estefan stuff in it because nothing is finalized enough to show.

The fun has been doubled

Here is the second image from my still life assignment.  One scene, one semester, two images.
It looks a bit different on each computer, there should be pure blacks and whites when it's at its best.  The first image is my layout render from the shot, I used it as a guide for lighting.

Done. Mwhahaha

Here is the final image of my still life project.  But it's not over yet, the assignment was to make two renders of the same objects.  I'll post the second image soon.

Paddy's Awesomeness

C36 is another shot I took from someone after their file got corrupted.  It's one of my favorite shots.  In C40 someone else started Clarence and I did everything else as well as Clarence's hair.  And this marks the end of my posts on Butcher'd Meats.  If you want to know how many shots I did you'll have to count yourself.  It depends on what you consider "worked on."  I'm not sure how much credit I should have for C2 and 4 because they were lit by someone else other than the hair and minor fixes.

C35

This ended up being a difficult shot.  It starts up with a closeup on Clarence and his hair, then he opens his mouth, and the camera zooms out.  I ended up animating the light settings to get it to look right.  Halfway through the file stopped working and I had to start a new one, but in the end the lights I made worked and were transferred to C26.  So basically I lit C26 too.

First Punches

The first shot I lit for the film was C20 and C21 was the first shot I lit with one of the main characters in it.

Introductions

C1 was given to me to restart from scratch after the original file someone worked on broke.  With C2 and 4 majority of the lighting was done by someone else.  I lit the hair and did touchups on the rest of the lighting.
